It may be slow, but I like the slow groove on this version

Subject: This version is slow
Well, I'll say this, a new, remastered version is available here:

Just compare any track from this source to the remaster. You will hear that this version is slow.

This is an unbelievable show both in terms of sound quality and playing and I dare say it is probably the best LF show on the Archive. This is a "must have" show for all you Feat freaks and casual listeners out there. Lowell is sorely missed but left us a body of work that crammed 10 lifetimes of fine playing into his very brief visit on this mortal coil, and this is just one shining example. Do not pass this one by.

Subject: Great to hear this again!
I was looking for something to listen to here at work in the waning hours of the workday. A review was posted earlier in the day for this show so it showed up on the welcome page of LMA. Decision made!

When this show was originally broadcast on WLIR, I didn't make it home til the end of the show. I was able to get the reel to reel fired up and only caught Cold, cold, cold thru the end of the show. I always wanted to hear the rest of that concert because it was so hot. I never thought to look here on LMA.

Thanks so much for capturing this and sharing it. WLIR sure sponsored some great shows and quality broadcasts from Ultrasonic and My Father's Place in Roslyn.

I echo many of the sentiments expressed here.
Lowell was the classic - Star that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Saw them a few times in London in the 1970s but the best was on the "Warner Brothers Music Show" package in 1975 which featured Graham Central Station, Tower Of Power, Montrose, Little Feat and the headliners, the Doobie Brothers.
It's not often you see a band with so much raw energy and emotion that they completely blow away the rest of the bill.

I'm so happy that all these great Little Feat recordings are freely available and top quality.

"...ah but it must be dust or smoke that's in my eyes."

PS - these SHN files can played in Foobar without converting.

This is shn file which is a compressed lossless format. You can decode it to .wav files for burning and/or convert it (or not) to whatever format is your pleasure. Download the free decoder at http://www.etree.org/mkw.html

Enjoy!

Subject: One of the best early LF recordings
This exceptional recording showcases Little Feat in a studio setting done at Hempstead Studios for WLIR FM (Long Island, NY). The show is very good, with loads of Lowell's juicy down-home slide pervasive throughout. The recording is very high quality for 1973. Some tidbits of DJ interviewing Lowell and the boys are on here between songs. Lowell talks about writing "Willin" while in the Mothers of Invention. They perform an absolutely beautiful version of On Your Way Down. The mood of the recording is laid back and there are a handful of people hanging out there, who you can hear clapping between songs. I had this recording in my collection forever and it is so worn out it is a delight to hear this nice version. Arguably the best of the early Feat "boots".

Subject: First-rate laidback funk!
Being a big fan of the band since the early '70s, my mind was totally blown by this amazing live recording. Awesome performance by the whole band, and the sound is top-drawer. Lowell George hasn't sounded more inspired and inspirited; his slide playing is absolutely stunning here. If you're looking for Little Feat at its peak, you owe it to yourself to download this now!

Subject: Band's Band
This show is a perfect example to tout the talents of Little Feat. I have been to more shows than I could ever count. Every show was better then the previous. This holds true today. Even with the passing of Lowell, the current line up, which includes all the members on this recording with the addition of Shaun Murphy, have taken live music to heights only others dream about.

I have seen "superstars" sit back stage and be in awe of their performances. I heard a multiplatinum recording artist tell me he wished his band could come close to this level every night!

DO yourself a favor. Not only get all their vintage material, but give yourself a thrill and catch them live the next time they are in your neck of the woods!

Subject: Oh My God
Please lord release me - this is the most amazing thing i have heard in Ages... unless you're made of stone - 'willin' - will totally make you go bananas this is a band at their peak - who are sublimely beautiful!

oh yeah crisp sound - little hiss but nothing serious!

btw - just picked this up off ALLMUSIC.com

'(lowell) George joined the Mothers of Invention, where he met Estrada. Zappa convinced George to form his own band after hearing "Willin'," but the guitarist was reluctant to begin a band until he participated in a brief Standells reunion.'

the song is Zappa endorsed... what more can you say! (revision: another story is that Zappa kindly 'asked him to leave' after hearing Willin - but wished him well)
Reviewer: Jania - - January 3, 2005
Subject: Performance Great, audio only good
Excellent performances. The audio quality here, while generally quite good, is marred by obvious tape hiss throughout and a noticeable and intrusive squeaking noise during "Willin'. Still a nice, clean recording in other respects, but the 9/19/74 set (also found on archive.org) features similarly high-quality performances, plus near-perfect sound and is the recommended set of the two Ultra Sonic sets.

Subject: This and the 9-19-74 show are as good as it gets
I had the privilege of seeing Feat in 74, 75 and 78. One of the all time favorites, they still rock but few write songs like Lowell did and he was such a great singer and kick axe slide player. I saw his last show at Lisner and still remember the day very clearly. This 73 show is a real gem, do not hesitate, get this and the 9-19-74 show now!

Performance A+

O.K. Screw the mp3s, I figured out how to use the shorten and flac files. Now I've already burned a cd of this. It's a great show and the sound is great. The 2 Ultrasonic shows are the best 2 things in the Feat section. Get them!
Reviewer: al vitale - - October 10, 2004
Subject: i was there
this concert is part of a series of tuesday night live radio concerts aired on wlir-fm, 92.7. the station was located a few blocks from ultra sonic recording studios. lowell george stayed after the live show and remixed the tapes till the wee hours. it was later used as a promotional live show by warner bros. those tuesday night concerts are an incredible sonic history of pretty much every first and second tier band of the 70's. from hot tuna to graham nash solo, jethro tull, jackson browne...they all showed up in that small intimate venue. i was there for nearly every one...and it was magic.

I won't waste your time with a long review. This show features a great set list, along with very strong playing and singing. Simply put, you may find a show that equals it, but nothing Little Feat has ever done is better.

Don't fail your Feat, download this show NOW!!!

Likewise, I also have the cassette (read: analog tape) of the Bonnie Raitt set from this same session, featuring Lowell and Freebo and probably others from this session. Someone please find a way to make the Bonnie set available too!

Subject: It's not just Lowell...
The whole band is red hot for this session. Sound quality is crystal clear.

The announcer refers to a session in the same FM studio that took place a couple months before this show, headlined by Bonnie Raitt, including Lowell George, Freebo and John Hammond. Any chance the same source for this fine Feat session could track down that Bonnie session? I've got an old cassette tape - you remember those - that's probably several generations removed from source.

Thanks much to whomever posted this show. I saw them about a month after this show and it was nothing short of incredible. Listening to this show makes me so happy, and yet, so sad that Lowell slid down the slippery slope. Wish he was still here showing us how it should be done.

Thanks again! If you don't have this and you consider yourself a LF fan, think again and download!! You WON'T be disappointed!

Subject: Great performance...
...and great recording, considering it's 1973. The other reviewers were correct: probably Little Feat at their peak, before Lowell's demons found him. This band had the ability to jam and find a groove like none other, and this recording has some of their best grooves. If you're a Little Feat fan at all, get this concert. "You'll love it - it's a way of life."

I have dozens of tapes of LF shows, but this is by far the best Lowell recording I have heard. His demons were not dominant, and the set was great. Special tracks were On Your Way Down and Walkin' All Night. Thanks for a great systems of sharing music etree and IA. Pick this show up, good recording, great set.

Much better sound quality than I expected (not sure why). Crisp, clean sound and a great performance.

Subject: Clear, Crisp, Clean Feat
I have been a fan of LF since Lowell was in the Mothers.....it's a joke. Anyway, I have heard a fair amount of 'taped' shows, and this recording beats anything I have heard that was not released on a record. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My opinion is that you are hearing the band in its hey day. Lowell sounds healthy, and everything seems friendly. As we all know, this was not to last. What an incredible grouping of musicians! Get this....you can actually play this type of file in the db Poweramp Player, which can be downloaded at Cnet.com [and its FREE].
